FAQ

Straight answers about autism-focused ABA.

Don't see your question? Email us — we answer honestly, including when the answer is 'it depends' or 'we might not be right for you.'

  • What is 'movement-based' ABA, exactly?

It means we build teaching around active regulation — proprioceptive input, vestibular movement, sensory circuits — instead of table-top drills. The evidence-based ABA components (prompting, reinforcement, data) all still happen; they just happen while the learner's body is regulated. For many autistic learners, this is the difference between shutting down and actually being able to engage.

  • Is ABA the right approach for my autistic child?

Fair question — ABA has a complicated history within the autism community, and we take that seriously. Modern, neuro-affirming ABA (the kind we practice) is about following your child's lead, respecting autistic autonomy, and building skills that make their life better on their terms. It is not about compliance, eye contact drills, or masking. If you're unsure, the free intro call is a good place to talk it through honestly.

  • What ages do you work with?

We work with autistic learners from roughly age 2 to 12. Early years benefit most from a movement-based approach, but we see meaningful outcomes with school-age kids too.

  • Where do sessions happen?

In-home sessions happen at your home — living room, basement, backyard, whatever setup works best for your child's sensory profile. Virtual sessions happen over video. We do not currently have a clinic space. That's intentional.

  • Do you serve families outside Ottawa?

In-home sessions are limited to the Ottawa region. Virtual parent coaching is available to families anywhere in Ontario (and beyond, depending on your situation — ask us).

  • Is MovementABA covered by insurance or OAP?

[Placeholder — replace with the real answer once confirmed. Common families ask about OAP core funding, private extended health benefits, and receipts eligible for the Disability Tax Credit. Be specific about what you can and can't invoice.]

  • How much does it cost?

[Placeholder — replace with your actual pricing structure. Families really appreciate a straight answer here rather than 'contact us for pricing.']

  • What's your waitlist like?

[Placeholder — update this line regularly as your availability changes. Even 'we currently have ~2 weeks of wait before a first session' is more useful than nothing.]

  • Do we need a formal autism diagnosis to start?

A formal diagnosis is not required to work with us, but it may be required to access certain funding sources (like OAP). We're happy to talk about your specific situation on the intro call, and we can point you toward assessment resources if you're still in the diagnostic process.

  • How do I know if you're the right fit?

Book the free 20-minute call. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you — and we'll try to point you toward a provider who is.
